Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2022

It is a première for Germany: The Westphalian Horse Museum, being the very first museum in Germany, is showing the photo exhibition "Wildlife Photographer of the Year" from 3 December 2022 to 10 April 2023. This competition is the greatest and most renowned one of its kind and is regarded as the "Oscar" among photographers of nature. The annual exhibition of the winning photos sets the standard to be reached by the photographs of animals and nature. The host of this competition is the London Natural History Museum.

For this year’s title "Wildlife Photographer of the Year" photographers from several countries have submitted about 39.000 subjects. Neither costly equipment nor trips lasting for months to the remotest places on earth are a necessity for taking part. The only conditions are that the photo was taken in the wild, has not been edited technically – and that the animals were not disturbed. The one hundred honoured photos in the exhibition fascinate and surprise the viewer because of the wealth of their themes and the great variety of their stylistic forms of expression. Touching animal portraits, dramatic snapshots, poetic images of a landscape or fascinating submarine shots reflect the wealth and the beauty, but also the vulnerability of our planet. Conveying the splendour and the drama of life to the people all over the world is an explicit intention of the organizers.
